The Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) will be held in Doha Qatar, from 5th to 9th March 2023. The Theme of the Conference is “From Potential to Prosperity”.
The objectives of the Conference are, to:
- Undertake a comprehensive appraisal of the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPOA);
- Mobilise additional international support measures and action in favour of the 46 LDCs; and
- Agree on a renewed partnership between LDCs and their development partners to overcome structural challenges, eradicate poverty, achieve internationally agreed development goals and enable graduation from the LDC category
38 OACPS are LDCs
70% of OACPS 79 members States are commodity dependent, and as such derive at least 60% of their export earnings from commodity exports.
The Mission of the OACPS is to promote the sustainable development of OACPS Member States and their gradual integration into the global economy with the ultimate objective of reducing and eventually eradicating poverty.
From 5 to 9 March, the OACPS Secretariat with the support of Business ACP will host an exhibition booth at Exhibition Hall 7 of the Qatar National Convention Centre. This will be the opportunity to recall and showcase the longstanding partnership between the OACPS and the European Union, through several programmes and facilities dedicated to Human and Social Development, Environment and Climate Action and Private Sector Development.
On 5th March 2023, the UNIDO will organize with the OACPS a side-event under the theme: “Paving the way for the implementation of the Doha Programme of Action: strategizing the next decade through inclusive and sustainable industrialization”. Find out the agenda of the event
The OACPS Delegation will also be involved in high-level Thematic Round Tables, bilateral meetings as well as a Ministerial meeting on South-South Cooperation.
