Main conclusions and recommendations of the webinar

There is need to:

  1. Restore confidence of consumers & travelers in visiting Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific tourist destinations
  2. Develop eco-tourism, rural tourism, community-based tourism; involve women, youth and indigenous peoples
  3. Encourage local & regional tourism
  4. Establish linkages between tourism hospitality & food suppliers and other suppliers
  5. Establish requirements for harmonized international travel rules
  6. Encourage investment & diversification of the tourism industry
  7. Support private sector involvement in tourism
  8. Improve business climate/reforms to relaunch jobs creation throughout the OACPS regions and countries.

Central Africa

On the occasion of #OACPSWTD. The tourism sector in Central Africa has been strongly hit. As a result, some countries have seen the collapse of revenues for the sector and other operators from the value chain, struggling businesses and sizable job losses.

But there just like in other regions, private sector operators together with the public sector are joining efforts in an attempt to revive activities.

On the occasion of #OACPSWTD. Tourism means everything to the Caribbean. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, tourist-based economies of the region have been strongly hit. But the Caribbean tourism sector is able to rebound from adversity after developing resilience from experiences such as hurricanes, 9/11, Zika, volcano eruptions… Governments and the industry are joining efforts to support and restart the sector.
